Life Tests on Filter-Separator Elements.

Abstract

Results are presented from 13 single-element life tests on filter-separator elements from a single manufacturer, using uninhibited JP-4 fuel contaminated with red iron oxide and filtered tap water. Ten tests were run using a continuous-solids procedure with injection of 0.33 mg/liter of red oxide over a 125-hr period, and three tests were run by the conventional 125-hr life test procedure of MIL-F-8901A, in which red iron oxide is injected at a rapid rate in the early stages of the test. In both types of test, element performance was generally good except for transient passage of solids during startup periods. Criteria for element performance in terms of effluent cleanliness and element dirt-holding capacity of plugging behavior have been evaluated. (Author)
