Exploratory Development of High Strength, High Modulus Multi-Filament Aluminum Oxide Fibers.
Abstract
A unique process for producing inorganic fibers, which utilizes commercial rayon spinning equipment with large volume capacities, was further explored as a means of continuously producing high tensile strength, high modulus of elasticity alumina fibers. Variables such a firing rate, temperature, atmosphere, fiber size, tension, and doping were explored. None of the variables studied led to significant improvement in strength over the previous best values. (Author, modified-PL).
