Improved Gas Sorbents for Individual and Collective Protection End Items.

Abstract

The subject contract has been undertaken to investigate the preparation of and the performance of whetlerized 'superactivated' carbon for use in devices for protecting against chemical agents. A superactivated carbon is one having a carbon tetrachloride activity of typically 120 percent as compared to a more conventional activity of typically 60 percent. A literature study on superactivated charcoal adsorbents has been made and pertinent information is presented. A tentative plan of action is proposed to demonstrate whether a steam activated carbon can be produced with properties similar to those of the previously prepared superactivated charcoal. (Author)
