Improved Methods for the Approximate Prediction of Large Deformation of ICBM Structures for use in Lethality Analysis. Volume II.

Abstract

The general problems confronting the structural analyst who is concerned with the lethality of an ABM are discussed. Emphasis is on short-time, impulsive loads generated as a result of ablator blow-off, when experienced by a two-layer, bonded cylindrical section. Analytical and graphical tools are presented for the estimate of material response, and its possible relationship to structural response. A number of qualitative conceptual suggestions are made relating to the phenomenology of the problem. A method of constructing an equivalent fully plastic cross section is offered, which can be used together with a CRASH X code, to predict the large deformation of a composite in unitary mode.
