Advanced Safing and Arming Device.
Abstract
The Advanced Safing and Arming Device (ASAD) breadboard developed successfully demonstrated that the ASAD electronics portion of a two-accelerometer, characterized single-integration system can accurately compute the safe separation distance for an MK 82 Snakeye bomb (either low-drag or high-drag) released between 500 and 30,000 feet at a velocity between 200 and 500 KIAS after a single compensation for release altitude, attitude, and post-release maneuver is entered into the system. The ASAD breadboard was demonstrated successfully under conditions simulating 21 different delivery modes of the MK 82 Snakeye bomb, including abnormal modes in which a retard fin fails, the environmental sensor fails, and impact occurs before arming.
