Flow Noise and Related Measurements in the TRG Water-Tunnel Facility.

Abstract

Description of the operation of a 'blow-down'-type, low-noise water tunnel developed for measuring turbulent boundary layer (TBL) noise on large-diameter sonar transducers is presented. Some of the tunnel characteristics given include mean velocity profile and TBL noise measurements on 1/16 in., 3/8 in., and 5 in. D transducers. TBL noise measured on 1/16 in. and 3/8 in. D transducers compares well with the noise measurements carried out by other investigators. (Author)
