On the Differential Properties of Entropy Production

Abstract

A theorem was established previously according to which stationary states of a system correspond to minimum entropy production, for a given value of the constraints. Throughout the proof three restrictive hypotheses were implied. This paper considers the following problem: Independently of these restrictive hypotheses, what are the most general properties of entropy production. It is shown that in reality the minimum of the variational law searched for represents only a particular case of a more general differential law.
