Setback-Spin Simulator for 5-Inch Air Gun

Abstract

Described is a removable adaptor that is used in the NOL 5-inch Air Gun to produce spin acceleration simultaneously with setback acceleration. The adaptor consists of a rifled breech block and a test vehicle with a 1-foot long spin accelerator (spiraled drive shaft). With the adaptor, the 5-inch gun can impart a peak setback acceleration of 20,000g, a peak spin acceleration of 240, 000 rad/sec squared, and a spin velocity of 50 rps to a 5-pound payload.
