Cultivation of Leptospira Strains on Different Nutritive Media,

Abstract

Growth of four strains of Leptospira were studied on three nutritive media; Sademov, Kostrikina modified medium, and Korthof medium. Three series of vaccines were prepared and tested for sterility, innocuousness, and activity. Results indicated superior growth of Leptospira for a longer time on modified nutritive medium than on Korthof. A Pomona-type vaccine prepared from cultures on this medium effectively immunized animals. The modified medium has the advantages of easier and cheaper preparation than the other two, and is recommended for the future preparation of vaccine against Leptospira. (Author)
