Propellant Stratification and Phase Change,

Abstract

The purpose of this document is to lay the technical ground work for an improved analysis of thermal stratification in propellant tankage. A review is made of the basic theoretical approaches to stratification analysis; the equations involved in the analyses are derived, and the strong and weak points of existing stratification computer programs are discussed. The best existing program was selected for a basic model and a number of improvements to this model are proposed. The approach to be taken in incorporating the improvements into a digital program is discussed and the required equations are derived. (Author)
