Initial Production Test (Extended) of Roller, Motorized, Tandem, 2 Axle, GED, Mil-R-10550D.
Abstract
The test objective was to determine if the roller was suitable for issue. Testing was conducted for 267 test hours on one test item under operational field conditions, on missions which typify normal operational use of the equipment by troops in the field. The test item was used to compact earth, base course, and ready-mix asphalt. The test item met all operational criteria except ground clearance which was 11-1/2 inches (12 inches required), water supply tank capacity (for sprinkler system) which was 120 gallons (125 gallons required), fuel tank capacity which was 20.5 gallons (25 gallons required), and reliability (with 5 countable failures) which was 0.50 (0.80 required) for a 20-hour mission at 90-percent confidence level. The point estimate mean time between failures (MTBF) was 53.4 hours and the computed MTBF at a 90-percent confidence level was 28.7 hours. The MTTR was 2.38 man-hours. The maintenance ratio was 0.101 hours of active maintenance time per operating hour. Support deficiencies included discrepancies in Draft TM 5-3895-272-12; lack of repair parts; and lack of organizational, direct support and general support repair parts manuals. It was concluded that Code A Production model 5-8 ton roller, as furnished for test, was unsuitable for issue pending correction of test item and support item (maintenance test package) deficiencies listed.
