Lightweight Broadband VHF Antenna Kit.
Abstract
The report covers the electrical and mechanical design and development of a Lightweight Broadband VHF Antenna Kit which covers the frequency range of 30 to 76 MHz. The antenna is intended for operation atop a 75 to 100-foot high metallic mast and is so designed to avoid entanglement with tree branches when erected and retracted in a dense wooded environment. Development of the antenna was initiated by designing and fabricating eight different scale-model configurations to explore mechanical and electrical properties of each. Data from these scale-models were evaluated and an optimum full-size configuration was then fabricated and tested. The report presents the results of both scale and full-size measurements. In addition, mechanical design aspects and a detailed weight analysis are included. (Author)
