Analytical and Experimental Investigations of Oscillations in Rocket Motor Baffle Cavities.

Abstract

Secondary flows induced in cavities with triangular cross-sections, due to an airflow over the mouth of the cavities, were investigated. Two cavities, having apex angles of 30 deg and 60 deg, were considered. Flow patterns were obtained for various depths of these cavities. Periodic oscillations were found to exist in the shear layer at the mouth of the cavity. An empirical correlation was obtained between the frequencies of these oscillations and the physical dimensions of the cavity. (Author)
