Spalling of Concrete in USN Waterfront Structures.

Abstract

The purpose of this report is to show how concreting practice used by the Port of Long Beach and the Port of Los Angeles differs in general from that used by the Bureau of Yards and Docks. Specifically, it shows why concrete at the Port of Long Beach and the Port of Los Angeles is more durable than that at similarly located USN fleet facilities where deterioration usually is manifested by spalling and associated signs of distress.
