Hard Hat/Piledriver Ground Motion Calculation.

Abstract

One-dimensional SHEP code solutions for the free-field ground motions in the PILEDRIVER nuclear event were obtained. Several behavioral models of the granite medium were developed and evaluated through comparison of the code results with the measured motions. The effects of source coupling conditions were also investigated. Good agreement between predictions and test observations was obtained when using a behavioral model having an effective yield strength on the order of 200 bars. The large radial displacements experienced in the free-field were found to be primarily due to the extent of cavity growth. (Author)
