Hydrodynamic Forces on CAB Flaps During Large Amplitude Non-Uniform Motion.

Abstract

The report presents an analtyical method for computing the hydrodynamic forces and moments on the fore and aft seals or flaps of a CAB vehicle. The equations presented are suitable for use in computer simulation studies. Both linear and nonlinear representations are presented and these are given both as a function of frequency for harmonic motions and as a function of time for transient motion. Large amplitude motions are treated in the nonlinear representation and the presence of discontinuous response (e.g. the flap lifting clear of the water and impacting on its return entry) are also discussed.
