Analysis of a Model for Multiplication Based Upon Arrays of Threshold Devices.

Abstract

This report investigates a proposed model for multiplication of two input signals, based upon simulation of neural processes. The model consists of four sets of two arrays each of randomly-connected threshold devices. Mathematical analysis of the model shows that the mean of the output random variable is twice the product of the input signals, attenuated by a factor that is inversely proportional to the number of devices. A special case of the model with non-random connections between the devices is found to perform highly-accurate multiplication of the input signals. (Author)
