Studies of Display Symbol Legibility: XIX. Design and Legibility Test Procedures for the 407L (TAC) PPI Consoles,

Abstract

The 407L PPI Console was troubled by two legibility problems. One problem resulted from the design of the track and other symbols while the second problem involved the method used to determine the legibility of these symbols during Category 1 Testing. The excellence of operator performance in identifying symbols was used to evaluate several alternative solutions to each of these problems. Recommendations of an improved symbol design and a more reliable legibility test method for the PPI Console are made. (Author)
