Investigation of the Electrode Migration and Reaction Process Occurring in Alkaline-Zinc Batteries.

Abstract

Zinc electrodes have been passivated in KOH solutions in different ways. There is no quantitative relationship between the zincate content of the electrolyte and the time to passivation. The passivation results reported here can be accounted for by assuming that passivation is due to the formation of a film or layer of Zn(OH)2 on the surface of the zinc. Passivation is the net result of several processes and the rates of some of these processes are not known and likely cannot be determined. (Author)
