A Taxonomic and Toxicological Study of the Scorpions of India.

Abstract

The scorpions of India and adjacent areas were studied from the standpoint of systematics and toxicology. Certain difficulties were encountered in the obtaining of live scorpions. Consequently, the toxicological phase of the study was curtailed. The general biology of scorpions, with emphasis on the regional forms, is presented in Chapter One. The subsequent three chapters present keys to all the categories from family to species, together with descriptions of the taxa involved and the necessary synonymy of each group. Chapter Five presents six types of research techniques needed to conduct research in the areas of taxonomy and toxicology. An appendix presents a table of scorpion morphology nomenclature which presents English synonyms together with their equivalents in French, German, Portuguese and Spanish. (Author)
