Service Test of Blasting Machine, Lightweight, XM32.

Abstract

Blasting Machine, Lightweight, XM32, is a hand held, lightweight blasting machine designed for positive initiation of 10 standard Army electric blasting caps in series with 1,000 feet of wire. It is a mechanically-operated generator-type device designed to assure that adequate energy is stored in its capacitors prior to blasting cap initiation. The weight of the test item is 11-1/4 ounces and the volume is 16.8 cubic inches. It is capable of one-hand operation. The test objectives were to determine whether the test item meets the pertinent military requirements and the suitability of the test item for airdrop and internal air portability in Phase I of airborne operations.
