On the Cathodic Phosphorescence of Scheelites and of Alumina,

Abstract

This study includes: A report on the method already used for the investigation and identification of very small quantities of rare earths; Its application to seven varities of scheelites, leading to the following conclusions: (a) Traces of rare elements are present in all investigated scheelites; (b) All rare elements which can thus be detected are present in these scheelites, but their relative ratio is very variable; (c) The absence of a distinct phosphorescence line can be attributed to an unknown rare earth; The description of the cathodic phosphorescence spectra of rare elements diluted in calcium tungstate; The description of their phosphorescence spectra in alumina; The description of the phosphorescence of several common elements in alumina.
