Liquid Fluorine Shutoff Valve Development Program.

Abstract

The report discusses a program undertaken to produce design criteria for a shutoff valve for liquid fluorine service as a part of the coordinated effort to develop the component technology required to meet potential Air Force requirements for high performance propulsion systems. This program met all of its technical objectives which included: A proof pressure of 225 psig, an external leakage of 10-7 sccs, an internal leakage of 100 scch after 1,000 LF2 full flow cycles, valve opening and closing response times of 500 milliseconds, and a pressure drop of 5 psid while flowing 65 lbs of liquid fluorine per second.
