A Free Form Test Facility for Large-Scale Structural Models of Ship Sections or Components,

Abstract

The report describes a new and versatile free form test facility (FFTF) that can realistically test components of ship structures, scale sections of large ships, and complete hulls of small ships and boats. The background leading to the development of the FFTF is given to indicate the previous gap in structural testing capability for large structures. The development of the test bed is described in detail, and the specifications developed for the test equipment are discussed for the hydraulic pumping system, the load application system, and the load programming and control system. A brief appraisal of the laboratory's technical competence in the field of structural testing is also given together with an indication of the tests initially planned for the FFTF. (Author)
