Computer Programs and Subroutines for Automated Cartography.

Abstract

Approximately six years ago, automation was adopted to the field of cartography at the U. S. Naval Oceanographic Office. Immediately, it became clear that specialized computer programming was one of the essential elements of a automated cartographic system. Numerous computer programs and subroutines have been developed to automatically produce a variety of cartographic functions including various map projections, shorelines, plotting of cities and geodetic positions, most electronic navigational lattice, grids, wind roses, and other functions of chart construction.
