Quantum Interferometer.

Abstract

An electronic system for use with an rf-biased SQUID is described in detail, and the inherent noise level of the system is shown to be equivalent to an rms flux of phi sub 0/6000 for a one-second response time and a SQUID with a 2 mm diameter aperture. The use of superconducting flux transformers to enhance the sensitivity to magnetic fields and field gradients is discussed. It is concluded that sensitivities of the order of 10 to the -11th power gauss field or 10 to the -13th power gauss/cm gradient should be attainable with flux transformers a few cm diameter by a meter long.
