Strain Gage Evaluation for Application to Model 55 Centaur Aft Bulkhead,

Abstract

A satisfactory installation (strain gage, cement, water-proofing, and lead wire) for the environmental conditions of 48 psig water pressure followed by 48 psig liquid nitrogen pressure was developed. Investigated were: Adhesion of cement and water-proofing material, Electrical resistance to ground of the strain gage circuit, and Change of gage factor of strain gages operating in liquid nitrogen. The best combination of gage, cement, and water-proofing found was in making recommendations for installation on the aft bulkhead. (Author)
