Study of Surface Properties of Atomically-Clean Metals and Semiconductors.

Abstract

A detailed study was made of the influence of the bake-out procedure on surface properties of CdSe after various cleaning techniques. It was found that the bake-out temperature has a very definite effect on the reactivity of the surface with oxygen. Surface reactions of the crystal with oxygen were monitored during excitation of the oxygen with a hot filament and during irradiation of the crystal with visible and ultraviolet light. (Author)
