Titanium 6Al-4V Hydraulic Plumbing for Advanced Aerospace Vehicles.
Abstract
The program evaluated 6Al-4V titanium as the basic tubing material for high-temperature, high-performance plumbing systems. This program also evaluated and selected from a field of existing types the most promising permanent-joint and detachable-joint fitting types for use in such a system. The feasibility of the resulting system was demonstrated by installing and permanently joining 'in place' the selected fittings and tubing in a hydraulic plumbing simulator and subjecting the plumbing system to endurance tests.
