MALLARD System Study. Detailed System Design. Volume I. Executive Summary.

Abstract

The Recommended System Design provides a cost-effective solution to the common user communication requirements of the army in the field beginning in 1975. Modern technology, including projections that can be made with confidence at the present time, permits a cost-effective transition from the AACOMS or BRUIN systems to an all-digital, potentially all-secure system that provides automatic switching for users from army down to battalion. We have detailed all design analyses, decision processes, system and parameter recommendations, etc. that we have made. The complexity and magnitude of the documentation describing all interrelated systems and characteristics of an integrated communication system, which MALLARD is, make the complete report voluminous. Material is presented in several levels of detail, including many appendices, to correspond to the various levels of specilization of the readers.
