Titanium Panel Extrusion Production Program.

Abstract

A manufacturing process has been established for the production of wide panel integrally stiffened titanium extrusions in high strength alloys. Heat treatment, straightening, joggling, and machining parameters have been established. Three extruded configurations were investigated in conjunction with ceramic coated dies and optimum conditions of glass lubrication. Methods of straightening long titanium panels to aluminum allowances and tolerances included gag press, rolling and creep straightening. (Author)
