Flight Experiment Shielding Study (FESS) Satellite Data Analysis Phase II.

Abstract

Examples of the OV1-2 data as plotted by the computer (SC4020) are presented and the utilization of these data is discussed. The data from satellite revolutions 0-658 (5 October to 1 December 1965) have been organized in B-L space. Omnidirectional fluxes are presented for electrons greater than 0.56 Mev, protons 10 greater than E greater than 20 Mev, and protons 20 greater than E greater than 49 Mev. The dose rate data are presented as isodose-rate curves for the three silicon dosimeters and the CsI X-ray detector. An extensive analysis of the quality of the data is presented, and the data included in the previous Phase I analysis are re-evaluated. Calculated dose rates at these B-L positions are compared with the experimental dose rates and the relative importance of various factors is quantitatively discussed. Recommendations are presented for analysis of additional OV1-2 data. (Author)
