Incoherent Scattering Linewidth in Monte Carlo Transport Codes.

Abstract

Incoherent scattering linewidth resulting from atomic electron momenta was included in a Monte Carlo code. This code was used to calculate x-ray transport through a gold sphere. Source monoenergetic x-rays just below, just above, and far above the K-absorption edge energy of gold were transported up to 10 mean free paths for the source x-ray energy; and fluence, energy deposited, spectra, and angular distributions were observed. Results indicate that calculations of total fluence and energy deposition without and with linewidth in the Monte Carlo code differ from each other by at most only a few percent for the cases studied. Recommendations are given for further analytical and Monte Carlo studies of special cases where linewidth may be important. (Author)
