Mass Spectrometric Study of Rare Earth-Carbon Systems. III. The Holmium-Carbon and Dysprosium-Carbon Systems.

Abstract

The vaporization of the systems holmium-carbon and dysprosium-carbon has been studied by means of the Knudsen effusion-mass spectrometric technique. In addition to the gaseous metal atoms, dicarbide and tetracarbide molecules were identified and their bond, atomization energies measured. A determination of the heats of formation for HoC2(s) and DyC2(s) has been made. (Author)
