Circular-Array Radar Antenna: Cylindrical-Array Theory.

Abstract

Elevation- and azimuth-scanning properties of cylindrical-array configurations are investigated. Methods are developed for forming pencil beams, for reducing the grating lobe, and for extending the useful elevation scan angle. The circular cylindrical-array configuration is compared with a four-sided planar-array configuration. In elevation-scanning performance, the configurations are found to be approximately equivalent. In azimuth-scanning performance, for a given aperture and number of elements, the cylindrical configuration is superior. (Author)
