Study of One Atmosphere Manned Underwater Structures, Volume I, Summary.

Abstract

The study was initiated with the objective of examining the various concepts for one-atmosphere manned underwater structures in order to develop effective guidelines for use in selecting appropriate structures for a variety of missions. For the purpose of this study, structures are defined as the enclosed one-atmosphere environment in which man can operate. A structure may be a pressure hull resting on or suspended above the ocean floor, or it may be a habitable area within a tunnel or space below the ocean floor. The results of the study are contained in a three-volume final report. This, the first of the three volumes, summarizes the technical studies performed and presents the findings and conclusions resulting from the investigations conducted. (Author)
