Ice Adhesion and a Deicing Coating.

Abstract

Final report on work done in developing a deicing coating to facilitate removal of ice accumulations on shipboard; on development of ice adhesion theories; and on development of methods for evaluating ice adhesion. Developed coating XZ-8-3057 (polysiloxane type) effective but short-lived (2-3 weeks) because of degradation by solar-radiation absorption. Shipboard use is recommended. Approach is indicated for extending life by incorporating solar-radiation absorbers. (Author)
