Study of Aviation-Fuel Filter/Separators.

Abstract

A 3-year review is presented of a research program concerned with studying the filter/separator phenomena. The study consisted of reviewing published information, determining physical properties of jet fuels, performing electrokinetic experiments, studying the coalescence of drops on single fibers and in packed fiber beds, studying the Water Separometer, and evaluating new and used DOD filter/separator elements in a test stand. In the work effects of fuel additives and/or contaminants on the coalescence of free water from jet fuel were determined in most of the studies. Additional work was done on determining the physical properties of fuel and anti-icing additive systems and also the water distribution in fiber-bed coalescers. (Author)
