Integrated Engineering and Service Test (Desert) of Filter/Separator, Optimum Lightweight, 100 GPM.

Abstract

A limited desert integrated engineering and service test of 100 gpm optimum lightweight filter/separator was conducted by Yuma Proving Ground From August to November 1968. The purpose of the test was to determine to the fullest extent possible if the test item met the requirements of the Small Development Requirement, to confirm the safety characteristics of the filter/separator, and to determine the adequacy of the Draft Technical Manual for employment of the filter/separator in the desert environment. The filter/separator was installed in POL test area and operated daily from 2 to 8 hours per day for four months. It was concluded that the 100 gpm filter/separator met the requirements of the SDR and is suitable for U.S. Army use under desert environmental conditions. The filter/separator is safe when operated in a desert environment in accordance with the precautions stated in the Draft Technical Manual and suggested addition to it and the manual is adequate for use in the operating and maintaining of the test item.
