Birds Eye 5-68, 7-20 August 1968.

Abstract

BIRDS EYE 5-68 was a regularly scheduled ice reconnaissance mission covering the Western Hemisphere portion of the Arctic Ocean and its adjacent seas between Vestspitsbergen and Wrangel Island from 7 to 20 August 1968. Ice observations contained in this report were made under daylight conditions with low clouds and fog limiting the range of effective visibility over the ice pack. Radar was the sole means of collecting data south of 74 deg 30 min N in the Greenland Sea. Pack ice in the Chukchi Sea was heavily puddled. A composite ice chart is included in this report. (Author)
