A Detailed Analysis of Acoustic Reflectivity in the Tyrrhenian Abyssal Plain.

Abstract

Acoustic bottom reflectivity experiments with explosive sources made in the Tyrrhenian abyssal plain have been analyzed in detail using digital analysis techniques. The reflection losses are computed and reported as functions of both angle of incidence and frequency. The impulse response is also computed for different angles of incidence and shows a large number of reflections from deep interfaces. Theoretical loss, phase shift, and impulse response have been computed from acoustical parameters measured on cores taken in the same area and these agree well with the experimental data. (Author)
