Investigation of Jet Mixing Processes in the Presence of Secondary Flow.

Abstract

A mathematical model for use in predicting the mixing field of two-dimensional turbulent free jet was developed. The model is based on von Karman's momentum integral equation, similarity of dimensionless velocity profiles, and an empirical relation between the rate of jet spread and jet velocities. The model was compared with the previous experiments of Weinstein and with an analytical model developed by Abramovich. The model was also used to correlate data gathered on a single slot nozzle and two adjacent slot nozzles. A FORTRAN computer program was developed from the mathematical model and is included.
