Rapid Site Preparation Techniques for VTOL Aircraft. Part III. Design and Test of Remote Site Preparation Systems. Volume II. Field Commander's Handbook.
Abstract
This handbook is designed to provide information guidance and procedures to personnel responsible for the planning, design and construction of facilities utilizing the Rapid Site pad concept. Rapid Site construction incorporates a fiber glass reinforced, polyester resin material system into an expedient surfacing configuration that can be used in applications normally associated with landing mats, planking, membranes, dust palliatives, etc. The concept is intended primarily for preparing pads for vertical take-off and landing aircraft helicopter pads, shelter flooring, cargo loading and storage areas, roadways, soil waterproofing and other related uses. Supplementary surfacing utilizing a heat-resistant resin system is also applicable where high temperature operations are a requirement. Step-by-step procedures are presented to assist an individual from the planning stages completely through pad construction. The scope of this handbook allows for a detailed discussion of the technical data directly concerned with Rapid Site. (Author)
