Selected Aspects of Large-Scale Computer System Design, No. 1. Volume II-Appendices.
Abstract
In the report techniques and results which may be of use to the designer of a computer system are discussed. Detailed presentations of the theory on which much of the material is based are omitted but may be found in the references. The report is oriented toward a system designer with a specific application and specific questions about how to proceed. Individual chapters are keyed to various portions or aspects of large-scale, multiple-access computer systems. Specific topics covered include: Choice of System Operating Mode, Processor Selection, Storage System Concepts, Storage Allocation, Terminal Device Selection, Network Design, Computer Program Analysis, and System Reliability. The report represents an initial attempt to develop a comprehensive set of guidelines affecting the design and selection of advanced computer systems.
