Development of Castable Carbonaceous Materials for Solid Rocket Nozzles

Abstract

Three basic material formulations were evaluated by laboratory testing and static firing in test motors with nozzles having a throat diameter of approximately 4 inches. In total, six nozzles were fabricated and static tested. One nozzle was fabricated of conventional nozzle materials and was used as a baseline. The remaining five nozzles were constructed using the castable carbonaceous materials.
