Portable Infrared Pulse Modulation Communication System.

Abstract

An experimental model of a portable infrared communication set has been designed and tested with a GaAs diode as the infrared source. The type of modulation used is Pulse Frequency Modulation (PFM), commonly referred to as Pulse Position Modulation (PPM). Pulse Modulation in portable infrared equipment is attempted in order to eliminate the bias requirements needed for the infrared diode in CW Modulation. This report analyzes and describes some of the basic theory and practice of a Pulse Modulation scheme applied to an infrared communication link. (Author)
