Improved Video Detectors.

Abstract

This program consisted of theoretical and experimental investigations of techniques to improve the performance of video detectors used in wide band receiving systems. These techniques included the investigation of hybrid detector diode employing multiple diode structures in a single mechanical package. Integrated circuit video preamplifiers were designed, constructed and tested. An experimental detector was designed for the hybrid diode, constructed and tested. This mount is capable of operating over the frequency region from below 2 GHz to above 4 GHz. This detector has a field adjustable matching structure which permits a wide variety of performance criteria to be achieved. Several sets of detector diodes were fabricated and tested. These units were tested under a broad range of conditions in addition to those tests required to demonstrate compliance with the design goals. All units which were tested to failure under high power conditions were analyzed and the results of each failure mode are explained. These results are consistent with theoretical predictions.
