A Diaphragm Gauge for Measuring Vapor Pressures of Fluorinated Metal Chelates.
Abstract
Several methods of measuring vapor pressures were examined and a guage using a mica diaphragm and a teflon valve to isolate the lanthanide-beta-diketone chelates was built. The gauge could detect pressure differences as small as 0.0005 Torr. The thermal properties of nine lanthanide-beta-diketone complexes were examined. All the samples except the samarium decomposed at temperatures between 149 and 165C. Vapor pressure data was taken for three of the lanthanide complexes, however, the decomposition rate was such that only the lutetium data was sufficient for a heat of vaporization calculation. After each sample had been heated the pressure was unstable at 0C, indicating a possible hydration-dehydration reaction. (Author)
