Distribution of Bottom Sediments off the Coasts of Republic of South Africa and South-West Africa.

Abstract

A bottom sediment chart for the coasts of the Republic of South Africa and South-West Africa has been prepared from data derived from nautical chart sediment notations supplemented by published and unpublished sediment field descriptions and analyses. The shelf sediments consist mainly of sand, rock, and coral along the shore and mud and/or sand on the outer shelf. Mud and mud-sand predominate on the slope, and the abyssal sediments consist primarily of globigerina ooze. (Author)
