Infrared Radiometer Development - First Milestone Report,
Abstract
In the Spring of 1964 there was proposed an orbital experiment to acquire data for the design of high accuracy orbital navigation systems. The objective of the experiment is to make radiometric measurements to verify, and improve where possible, the level of predictability of the earth's 15 micron CO2 limb profile claimed in reports by limb phenomenologists. This report covers those aspects of the design of the experiment that are essential for the derivation of the radiometer specifications; it includes a description of an approach to the design of a radiometer to meet these specifications; and it contains results of a breadboard investigation that provides the practical basis for the centering of the design.
